PhD from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark

Cand.psych (MA) from the University of Aarhus, Denmark

I have lived a nomadic life and understand first-hand and from my professional life the challenges of settling a family in a new country.

During my career, I have worked as a therapist, a researcher and a practitioner in the humanitarian sector focusing on mental health and psychosocial support. My approach is always to help people cope with their life challenges in positive and healthy ways.

I have an unusual background. I was born in the tiny, beautiful, mountainous Kingdom of Eswatini (previously Swaziland), to Danish parents. We returned to Denmark for four years and then back to Africa, this time Botswana, before returning to Swaziland two years later, where I then spent most of my teenage and adult life. I have lived in Denmark multiple times for shorter periods.

I have travelled a lot and moved continents several times. This has given me unique experiences and a deep understanding of people from all over the world. It also gives me an understanding of the challenges faced by people who travel and move often, either for work or other reasons. I know, first-hand, how difficult it is to move and adapt to new places and groups of people.

I am a proud mother to two beautiful children. My son is 28 and my daughter is 18. They continue to open doors in my world that I am so grateful and excited about. Being their mother has helped me further understand challenges faced by children (all ages), parents (together, single, divorced, bereaved) and families.

I am a psychologist (Cand.psych, University of Aarhus) and I have a PhD from the University of Copenhagen.

Although I love to help and support people with psychological interventions, I am also passionate about research as I feel we have a strong commitment ensure that the methods we work with are the best to support the people we aim to help.

I have worked in the humanitarian field for over 20 years and am especially interested in community-based mental health and psychosocial approaches to support professional psychological and psychiatric services, which are limited in most countries. I love to combine my skills from working as a practicing psychologist with those from my work as a MHPSS practitioner and advisor in humanitarian work.

I speak Danish and English fluently, conversational French and a some siSwati and Xhosa. In my spare time I love to read, bike, swim and be outdoors and spend time with friends and family.
